China donates another 3mil doses of vaccine

 

To accelerate the momentum of giving the Covid-19 booster shot to double vaccinated people, the Chinese government is again at the forefront of donating an additional three million doses of the vaccine to help Cambodia achieve its set goal.

This was announced by Prime Minister Hun Sen on Sunday night after a signing ceremony between him and presided a document signing ceremony at the Peace Palace and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The Premier said the donation by their ironclad friendship China and those bought is not only helping Cambodia achieve the targeted herd immunity against the coronavirus but the booster shot will further induce efficacy and immunogenicity to the people.

At present, the Kingdom has nine million doses of the vaccine to be given as booster shots to double vaccinated people and needs another three million doses of the vaccine to meet their goal.

Mr Hun Sen said China has been the major supplier of the vaccine and the Kingdom is ever grateful and at the same time welcomed all countries who wish to donate either through bilateral relationship or multilateral through COVAX Facility.

He hopes to complete giving the booster shot to all double vaccinated people within the next months with a third dose campaign to start next month.

Meanwhile, Wang said that the Chinese government will provide an additional three million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Cambodia to be given as booster shots. So far Cambodia has received 26.8 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine from the Chinese government and its people.

Foreign Affairs Minister Prak Sokhonn said with the donation pledged by China, the Kingdom can now accelerate the socio-economic recovery that could lead to normalcy soon.

As of September 11, the Ministry of Health reported they had vaccinated 9,809,960 people aged 18 years and above, or 97.23% of the target population of 10 million while another 1,709,245 children between 12 and 17 years.

The ministry also urged everyone to be more vigilant and strictly adhere to the Covid-19 preventive measures as so far 100,133 people were infected with the disease and  2,049 had died.

Furthermore, it said the virus is spreading around the world and WHO has reported more than 220 million people infected Covid-19 of whom more than 4 million had succumbed to the deadly disease.

In another development, Kampong Chhnang provincial authorities reported 48 new cases of Covid-19 of which 17 were of Delta variant. The majority of those infected were truck drivers, vendors, workers, farmers, civil servants, teachers, students, and police officers.

As of September 11, the province recorded 3,028 cases of Covid-19 with 42 cases of Delta variant, 2,640 patients have been recovered with 92 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Ministry yesterday reported 629 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number to 100,133. Of the new cases, 113 are imported and the rest are linked to the February 20 Community Event.

Nine people had died of the deadly disease, bringing the fatality rate to 2,049. There were 422 new recoveries, bringing the total number of people who recovered to 94,326.
